Why Dixie Dregs??

I have been listening to PA for many months now, and I like at least 85% of what I hear. There is a little more metal during the day than I like, but for the most part it's OK. I really love the music from Genesis/Yes/Floyd/GG etc. Unlike some recent posts, I actually like hearing some FK music. But the one band I can't take is The Dixie Dregs. How did they end up on a Progressive Rock station? You might as well be playing the ABB or some other "Southern Fried Rock". I quit listening to terrestrial FM radio because all the local "Classic Rock" stations kept playing "Freebird" and other stuff that the Dixie Dregs reminds me of. Anyway, that's my humble opinion for what it's worth.

Let's see if we have understood this correctly. The epic Freebird is ... hardly at the completion of the beginning sort of chord and we is searching for shelter. And don't even less ask us what is left between contemporary youth's ears who's enjoying a pop-flow of instrumentations that would let an ensemble of frogs, crickets and any argumenting normal folks look wan.

The next phing, did i hear you mentioning prop metal? This' mysteerie, there ain't none. Off of the few experimentators and from their dabblings one finds two or three Songs mind, worth the effort of getting the laser loose.

..the_m keys on Faiph No Moruh's Falling to Pieces are chillaxing. ...so laid back, i just fell off the sofa ..againnn...

I thought they sounded appropriate to the station.

They are a very eclectic band. Some of their stuff sounds very like Mahavishnu Orchestra to me. It's not surprising as Jerry Goodman plays fiddle with them.

I think the Dixie Dregs are very definitely prog, and among the pioneers of fusion. They aren't the same 'style' of prog as Yes, Genesis etc. though.

This is an old threat, so I don't know if the original poster is still watching this topic. But let me chime in, since I am the one that programs the default stream.

As previously mentioned, Dixie Dregs plays a variety of styles. But, listen to Punk Sandwich from Night of the Living Dregs, or Odyssey from What If. These are prog tunes.

Drummer Rod Morgenstein, a graduate and now teacher at Berklee College of Music, played with Jordan Rudess; Steve Morse is one of the best guitarists out there.

Sure, some of the stuff is a little too hillbilly, but we play it anyway for completeness.

Delicious Agony will never guarantee that everyone will like everything we play. We WILL guarantee that we will always play a wide variety of music that is either considered "prog" by some, or is liked by those who like "prog", whatever your definition of "prog" might be.

We can also say that some Alice COOPER's albums have prog tracks inside , I think at "Killer" it has 3 longs tracks (between 5 to 8mn) absolutely fabulous and completely prog, it is : "Halo of Flies"; "Dead Babies"; "Killer" : duration of these 3 tracks: more than 20 mn: the half of the album !!!!! and nobody has never said that it was a prog album, why not ???

Dixie Dregs?

True, but it is one of the most requested tracks to be played when my wife's band does gigs. They refuse btw ...

I decided that FreeBird would get a play, re-arranged the in the style we play for the end of a show perhaps, for my band.

Any EM on the air waves around here?

Nice Avator minou38190 ... Tangerine Dream ...

..since almost everybody at zappa.com had so much to say about Freebird, i stopped with that and spend time now otherwise ...did you know they are still believing Frank's best songtext is: information is not knowledge, knowledge is not wisdom, wisdom is not truth, truth is not beauty, beauty is not love, love is not music, music is the best... yeah, actually worthwhile.

Then he adds, and i listened to it not too long ago:

Wisdom is the domain
Of the wis
(which is extinct) - Packard Goose; ..ya-ney, affirmed ;.)

How much is Tangerine Dream gonna pay for all that hassle and why not instead put some things onto the keyboard as it happens... oomph.

What's EM then ... eHm, eclectic magic, electro-magnitizzem, earnest miss-spellin's ...lemme ponder further.

..also occupied with your web-page and ...now continuing. ... arms' hair raising. ..whahhh.

Yep, I know the album well, I have a few of them, signed.
UCLA, Royce Hall in LA on the 7th Nov 2008
They are playing in the UK a few days before the 7th too.
First time for them back to the states in a long time. Well as a band anyway. Some of them have shown up at the winter namm show in LA.

last time I saw them live as a band was in 87 I think, Universal Amp. in LA
