Allan Holdsworth

Postby GKT » Mon Apr 24, 2017 2:22 pm

I'm surprised that there are no postings of last week's passing of
this great guitarist. Anyway, I was very very saddened to hear the
news. My personal favorite guitarist. RIP Allan, you brought great
joy to many,
GKT

Hey GKT! My show today is 100% Holdsworth (5pm EST). Very sad news indeed...

Actually the community rallied together to raise funds for Allan's funeral. I think a lot of the chat was Facebook centered - You are right he was a true giant!

Anyone's Daughter, "Out Of This World": I think it's the first prog track I've ever heard that sounds like soul music! (In the opposite direction, Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" is so technical-sounding that it could almost be prog.) I suppose the two genres overlap mainly in funk? But this wasn't funk. Curious.

Re: Requests for more of The Flower Kings

Postby dagaylor » Fri May 12, 2017 11:27 am

Hi! I would like to request more from my favorite band The Flower Kings! I know Mr. Cassidy plays them occasionally, but I would enjoy hearing more, especially during the weekdays, when I listen at work. Thank you!

Concerning Max Webster: their absolutely MOST progrocky songs are "Sun Voices" / "Moon Voices" on the album "A million vacations"...! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzPHfnum5U8, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzPHfnum5U8

Matinee Update

Postby PapaJimH » Sat Jul 29, 2017 8:19 pm

Hey all you PJ Matinee fans (yes, BOTH of you!), there will be no show again this week. The good news is the WALLS of this old house are back. The bad news is there's still no running water. No water means no bathroom and with no bathroom how can there be a Matinee? I suppose I COULD broadcast from the hotel we've been living in for over a month now, but it just wouldn't be the same. But I'm not being completely lazy, I'm using this little sabbatical to work up ALL NEW Material! OK, that sounds good but it'll just be the same old material with a new name. If I can come up with one. Seriously, I think we'll have running water next week and if so, next week I'll be back. So all of you who've become comfortable with NOT having to logoff DA on Saturday nights... next week you'll have to.

Thanks for your patients! - Balzak Memorial
